Hot-shooting Bobcats salvage weekend split with Cougars

QUICKLY
  • The Brandon Bobcats used a big second-half run on Saturday night to pull away from the University of Regina Cougars for a 109-75 victory at the Healthy Living Centre in Brandon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams came out firing in the first half, with the Cougars shooting 65% from the field and Brandon shooting 59%. Regina held a 51-45 advantage at the break.
  • Brandon was able to continue the torrid shooting pace after halftime, shooting 57% and pulling away from the Cougars in the third and fourth quarters. The Bobcats went on a 12-1 run in the third quarter, then outscored Regina 27-5 in the fourth.

NOTES
  • Anthony Tsegakele and Jahmaal Gardner led Brandon with 33 and 28 points, respectively.
  • Matt Barnard had a team-high 15 points for Regina, while Nick Barnard scored 11.
  • Carter Millar also scored in double figures with 10 points while adding six assists, and both Brayden Kuski and Nigel Warden scored nine points.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will now host Saskatchewan next Friday and Saturday with a scheduled start time of 8:00 PM both nights. Both teams head into the weekend at 1-1 after compiling season-opening splits to start Canada West play.
