Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars settle for weekend split with UBC Okanagan

QUICKLY
  • In what was essentially a reverse of Friday night's game, the University of Regina's men's basketball team surrendered a big fourth-quarter run to UBC Okanagan and lost 79-75 to the Heat on Saturday in Kelowna.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early double-digit lead in the first quarter, but UBC Okanagan came back in the second and the U of R held a slim 40-37 lead at the half.
  • UBC Okanagan briefly took the lead early in the third, but the Cougars immediately took it back and built up a 61-51 advantage at the end of the period.
  • The Cougars led for the first eight and a half minutes of the fourth quarter, but a Carter Millar three-pointer that put them up 75-71 with just under three minutes to go would turn out to be Regina's final points of the game. UBC Okanagan closed out the contest with eight straight points to take the win.

NOTES
  • Carter Millar had another monster outing for the Cougars, piling up 29 points and matching his career high with 17 rebounds for the second consecutive night.
  • Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points.
  • Matt Barnard added 12 points for the Cougars.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will compete next at the Wesmen Classic, hosted by the University of Winnipeg beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 28. The draw for that non-conference tournament is expected to be released in the next week.
