The University of Regina's women's basketball team won Canada West bronze on Saturday night after defeating Lethbridge by a 92-60 score on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
Five different Cougars scored in double figures in the victory led by
Faith Reid's 18 points and a 17-point effort by
Kaitlyn Tonita in both players' final game in a U of R uniform.
The Cougars led from wire to wire, opening up a 15-2 lead by the midway point of the first quarter and cruising to victory from there.
"It was a nice way to finish the year," Cougars head coach
Dave Taylor said. "We're at our best when we're hitting shots and creating energy on defence, and that's exactly what we did today. I thought this was one of our most complete team wins and we had great energy up and down the lineup."
Cara Misskey and
Jade Belmore added 12 points in the win, while
Julia Vydrova scored 10 and
Madeleine Tell just missed out on the double-figure parade with nine points. Misskey added a team-high seven rebounds, while
Dayna Pearce came off the bench to lead all players with six assists.
Jessica Haenni led Lethbridge with 22 points.
NOTES: The Cougars have made 15 trips to the Canada West Final Four, but this was just the second time playing in the third-place game and the first time finishing with bronze.
