HEADLINES
• The Rams continue to hold down the nation's No. 6 ranking after a 21-13 road victory last Friday at UBC.

• Led by DL Anthony Bennett, LB Ryder Varga, and LB Josh White, the U of R defence under the supervision of coordinator Sheldon Gray has surrendered an average of only 17.8 points per game this season.

• The Rams will be playing at Leibel Field for the second time in history and for the first time since Oct. 25, 2019.

• Alberta comes into this game at 2-2 after a Week 1 road loss to UBC, consecutive wins over Manitoba and at Calgary, and a home loss last Friday to Saskatchewan.

LEIBEL FIELD: Saturday's game will be the second time that the Rams have played at Regina Minor Football's exceptional Douglas Park facility. With Mosaic Stadium unavailable as it was being prepared for the Heritage Classic between the Calgary Flames and the Winnipeg Jets, the Rams moved their final game of the 2019 season to Leibel Field and blasted Manitoba 47-14.

TOUGH D: The Rams have allowed just 71 points so far, which ranks as the third-lowest total by a U of R team ever through the first four weeks of the season and the lowest since the Rams surrendered 67 points during the first four games of the 2010 campaign. The 2002 squad, which allowed just 61 points in its first four contests, is the only other Rams team to give up fewer points than this year's group.

BENNETT BRILLIANCE: DL Anthony Bennett has registered at least one sack in three of the Rams' four games so far, including in last week's win over UBC when he brought down Garrett Rooker late in the fourth quarter for a loss of 10 yards. Bennett is Canada West's outright leader with five sacks this season and is tied for second in U SPORTS behind only Montreal's Nicky Farinaccio, who has 6.5 on the year. No other Canada West player has more than two sacks, and Bennett has the U of R single-season record of 6.5 sacks square in his sights. That mark was originally set by Akiem Hicks (2011) and later matched by Nicholas Dheilly (2017).

SAVARD BREAKS OUT: RB Olivier Savard entered Friday's win after an early injury to RB Christian Katende and was impressive, rushing 22 times for 103 yards to become the first Rams player of the season to hit triple digits in rushing yards. Savard, in his first year with the Rams after coming to the U of R from Cégep Limoilou, scored his first U SPORTS touchdown on a 31-yard run in the first quarter of the victory.

SACK ATTACK: DL Anthony Bennett alone has as many or more sacks than every other Canada West team with the exception of UBC, and the Rams lead Canada West and rank sixth in the nation with 11 sacks this season. Besides Bennett's exploits, DL Tanner Schmekel and LB Josh White both have a pair of sacks and DL Michael Clow and DL Garth Knittig both have one. The Rams are on pace to threaten the school's team record for sacks in a single season, which Akiem Hicks and company set at 23 back in 2011.

PASS CATCHERS: SB D'Sean Mimbs and SB Bennett Stusek rank fifth and sixth in Canada West in receiving yards, while WR Riley Boersma is second in the conference and sixth in the nation with 22 receptions. Mimbs has 16 catches for a team-leading 270 yards and two touchdowns, while Stusek caught a pair of touchdown passes in last week's win and now has 14 catches for 265 yards and three majors. Boersma is third with 197 receiving yards and has also been credited with three rushes for 38 yards.

MATCHUP NOTES: The Rams hold a 22-11 edge in the 33 Canada West games played between the two teams. They'll be looking to avenge last year's 23-22 loss to Alberta in Edmonton in what was the only meeting between the Rams and the Golden Bears in 2021. Alberta is making its first trip to Regina since Week 2 of the 2019 season, a game which also went to the Golden Bears by a one-point margin. The Rams are 11-4 against Alberta in Regina, though this will be the first time they've met at Leibel Field.

UNDER CENTRE: Rookie QB Noah Pelletier is 67-for-123 for 867 yards and five touchdowns through the first three games of the season. He's on pace for 1734 passing yards, which would rank as the third most in a single season by a U of R first-year quarterback (Noah Picton holds that record with 2029 yards in 2014, while QB Josh Donnelly had 1965 yards in 2019). Pelletier threw a touchdown pass in each of the team's first three games, and hit SB Bennett Stusek twice last week at UBC for his first game with multiple TD passes.

PICKS: Both the Rams and Alberta are among three teams currently tied for the Canada West lead with four interceptions. DL Anthony Bennett, DB Jaxon Ford, DB Donovin Small, and LB Ryder Varga have all registered picks for the Rams this season. Manitoba also enters Week 5 with four interceptions.

LEADING LINEBACKER: Selected by the BC Lions in the third round of last spring's CFL Draft, LB Ryder Varga had another big outing last week with 11.5 tackles and a fumble recovery on the final play of the game. The fourth-year mac linebacker is the team's leader with 26.0 tackles (21 solo, 10 assisted) and also has four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a blocked kick, an interception, and a fumble recovery.

IRON MAN: The most experienced player on the Rams roster is DB Zach Moore, who (including the postseason) has played in 34 career games and has started 33 consecutive games at halfback. Moore is fifth on the team with 13.5 tackles and also has a pair of pass breakups this season.

ON THE LINE: With the exception of OL Parker Hodel missing the Week 2 contest due to injury, the Rams have been stable on the offensive line this year. The starting group consists of a pair of newcomers from the Regina Thunder on the left side with OL Matthew Hajewich at left tackle and OL Damon Iron at left guard. OL Maguire Abell starts at centre, while Hodel holds down right guard and OL Joel Braden is at right tackle.

ALDO UPDATE: K Aldo Galvan continues to rank among the nation's best punters. He's second in all of U SPORTS with an average of 45.6 yards per punt and has pinned the opposition inside of the 20-yard line on eight separate occasions this year. He also has 199 career points and passed Jon Ryan for second place on the U of R's all-time scoring list during the UBC win.
