Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars score come-from-behind win over MacEwan

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team scored twice in the third period to secure a come-from-behind 3-2 win over MacEwan on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded goals in the opening period, with David Kope scoring for MacEwan first and Christian Riemer getting the equalizer for the Cougars on a shot from the left point through traffic late in the period.
  • MacEwan scored the lone goal of the second as Jordan Taupert pounced on a rebound just a minute and a half into the middle frame.
  • The Cougars put together their second consecutive third-period comeback starting with an Eric Houk goal seven minutes into the final period after Jayden Davis found him all alone in front of the net. Houk went to the backhand to tie the game and notch his second goal of the season.
  • Brady Pouteau scored what held up as the game-winning goal on a shot from the point with just over three minutes to go.

NOTES
  • The out-of-town scoreboard was also kind to the Cougars in the form of a 5-1 win for Mount Royal over Manitoba. The Cougars are now just one point behind Manitoba for the sixth and final Canada West postseason berth.
  • Adam Evanoff got his fourth consecutive start for the Cougars and stopped 26 of 28 shots for the win.
  • Jayden Davis assisted on both of the U of R's third-period goals. He now has eight helpers on the season.
