Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lowe scores winner in 2-1 victory over Lethbridge

QUICKLY
Playing in her first career Canada West game, rookie midfielder Emma Lowe scored the game-winning goal in the second half of the University of Regina's 2-1 win over Lethbridge on Sunday in a women's soccer game at the U of R Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars opened the scoring in the first half after being awarded a corner in the 28th minute. Allyson Schneider sent a nice in-swinger into the box, and it glanced off a Lethbridge defender's head and into the net for the opening goal of the game.
  • Lethbridge tied it up in first-half injury time when Lucy Mundy sent a nice through ball up to Hailey Slobodian. Slobodian slipped it past a charging Cassidy Fedoruk, sending the two teams into halftime knotted at 1-1.
  • Emma Lowe, who was subbed in at halftime for the first time as a Cougar, scored in the 59th after Nicole Klassen sent a low cross in from the right side. The pass was partially deflected by Lethbridge's keeper, but Lowe was in perfect position and scored what turned out to be the final goal of the match.

NOTES
  • The Cougars held a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal during the match.
  • Starting keeper Cassidy Fedoruk made one save to help secure her first Canada West victory.

STANDINGS
  • The win improves Regina's record to 2-4-4 on the season. The Cougars now have a four-point cushion on Manitoba (2-8-0) for the final Prairie Division playoff spot.

NEXT UP
The Cougars have four matches remaining on the Canada West schedule, including their final home contest of the season next Friday night (7:00) in a U-Prairie Challenge game against Saskatchewan. They'll also play the Huskies the following day (Oct. 7) in Saskatoon before finishing the conference season on Oct. 14 (at Manitoba) and Oct. 15 (at Winnipeg).
