Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars roll to 6-2 road win over Trinity Western

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team scored four unanswered second-period goals en route to a 6-2 road win over Trinity Western on Friday night in Langley, B.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After TWU's Tanner Hopps opened the scoring early in the second following a scoreless first, the Cougars reeled off four consecutive goals to take a stranglehold on the game.
  • Regina's first goal came when Carson Sass sent Eric Pearce in alone on a breakaway, and Pearce went low blocker for his first of the season. They added to the lead when Paycen Bjorklund took a pass from Jackson Doucet in front of the net and went to his backhand to beat TWU goalie Leon Sommer.
  • The Cougars then scored two goals in a span of 64 seconds. Ayden Third walked on from the left point and scored his first Canada West goal on his own rebound, then Logan Barlage also scored on his own rebound to put the Cougars up 4-1.
  • TWU added one before the second intermission, but Pearce's second goal of the game eight minutes into the third all but ended any hope of a TWU comeback. Bjorklund added an empty netter late in the game.

NOTES
  • The Cougars improve their record to 1-2-2 with the win.
  • Ethan Anders got his first start in net for Regina and stopped 19 of 21 shots for the win.
