Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Cougars defeated by UBC in Saturday rematch

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to UBC on Saturday afternoon at the Father David Bauer Arena in Vancouver.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded goals in the first 98 seconds of the game. Mackenzie Kordic scored for UBC just 39 seconds in, but Jordyn Blais replied under a minute later after connecting on a pass from the corner by Kaitlyn Gilroy.
  • The score stayed 1-1 through 20 minutes, but UBC exploded for four goals in the second period as Grace Elliott, Makenzie McCallum, Joelle Fiala, and McCallum again scored for the Thunderbirds.
  • UBC added an insurance marker in the third to give the Thunderbirds their second 6-1 win in as many days over the Cougars.

NOTES
  • Blais' goal and Gilroy's assist were the first points of the Canada West schedule for both players.
  • Arden Kliewer got the start in net for the Cougars and stopped 33 of UBC's 39 shots.

NEXT UP
The Cougars are back home next weekend for games against Trinity Western on Friday (7:00 PM) and Saturday (5:00 PM) at The Co-operators Centre.
