• Coming off a Week 3 win over Calgary, the fourth-place Rams will look to put some distance between them and fifth place. Assuming heavily favoured Saskatchewan defeats Calgary on Friday night, a Rams win would move them to 2-2 and put them two wins clear of both Manitoba and the Dinos.
• While Manitoba enters this game winless at 0-3, the Bisons have played a tough schedule so far with one game against each of the top three teams in the Canada West standings. A win for the Bisons would move both teams to 1-3, but Manitoba would jump into possession of the fourth and final Canada West playoff spot on head-to-head.
• Saturday's Week 4 game will mark the first of two Canada West matchups between the two teams this year. They'll also have a Week 6 clash on Saturday, Oct. 14 in Regina which will be the Rams' next home game.
SIEBEN'S DEBUT: After he performed brilliantly in camp and in the non-conference game against Manitoba, Rams fans got their first real look at first-year QB
Owen Sieben in Saturday's win. Sieben came in for starting QB
Bryden O'Flaherty in the second quarter and completed 13 of his 20 passes for 187 yards including an 8-yard touchdown pass to
Bennett Stusek.
UNDER CENTRE: Sieben was in the lineup against Calgary because QB
Noah Pelletier was injured in Week 2 against Saskatchewan. Pelletier's return for Week 4 remains questionable, so expect Sieben along with one of Pelletier,
Keegan Kaytor, or
Joey Howorko to dress as quarterbacks on Saturday.
HE'S HERE, HE'S THERE: One of the most versatile players in recent memory on the Rams, LB
Brayden Wagg ended up with a truly remarkable stat line in Friday's win. He not only collected 5.5 tackles including a half tackle for loss, but also rushed for two touchdowns after taking over under centre for the Rams in short-yardage situations following the injury to starting QB
Bryden O'Flaherty. Wagg, who was a quarterback during his high school days at Campbell Collegiate in Regina, also had a three-yard rush for a first down on a fake punt in the second half.
ERICHSEN BREAKS OUT: RB
Marshall Erichsen exploded for a career-high 122 rushing yards in the win over Calgary. He also had a 29-yard reception and a 30-yard kickoff return against the Dinos to give him a game-high 181 all-purpose yards.
MEXICAN LEADS CANADA: K
Aldo Galvan continues to lead the nation in punting. The fifth-year veteran is averaging 48.4 yards on his 21 punts this season, which has him on pace to crush his own U of R single-season record of 46.0 yards per punt which he set just last year.
MIMBS AMONG LEADERS: Always a threat, SB
D'Sean Mimbs only had 3 catches on Friday but still had a team-high 62 receiving yards which included a 38-yard pass from Sieben. Mimbs ranks fourth in Canada West with 237 receiving yards and is ninth in the nation with an average of 79 receiving yards per game. He's also closing in on 1000 career receiving yards, needing only 89 more to hit that milestone.
TOP TEN BOUND: SB
Bennett Stusek now needs just one more reception to break into the school's all-time top 10, as his 115th catch will pull him into a tie with Jason Clermont and Kyle Moortgat for ninth in U of R history. He's about to do the same in the receiving yards category, needing just 30 yards to surpass Chris Bauman for 10th and 84 yards to pass Mike Thomas for 9th.
TURNOVER TRACKER: The Rams forced five Calgary turnovers in their Week 3 victory, starting with
Justin Mckerracher's first U SPORTS interception with the Dinos well into Regina territory late in the first half. The Rams got lucky after Calgary punter Chris MacLean went down to retrieve a low snap on the Dinos' first possession of the second half, but was called for kneeling while in possession of the ball. All three of Calgary's fourth-quarter possessions ended in turnovers, two on downs and one on a
Josh White fumble recovery after Dinos quarterback Xavier Vaillancourt dropped the ball while rolling to his left.
DRAFT REPORT: Mimbs, LB
Cameron Mah, and DB
Jackson Sombach all participated in the U SPORTS East-West Bowl earlier this year, a showcase which features (for the most part) players available for selection in the 2024 CFL Draft. Galvan, O'Flaherty, OL
Matthew Hajewich, and DB
Gowrishan Aravinthan are also eligible.
