Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars topped by Alberta in Edmonton

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Friday night as Alberta took an 85-68 win over the Cougars in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alberta led Friday's game from wire to wire. The Golden Bears jumped out to a 16-5 lead just four minutes in and led 26-16 after the opening quarter, then answered a second-quarter Regina push with 11 consecutive points that put Alberta up 40-23.
  • The Golden Bears closed the half with back-to-back Lars Ishimwe buckets that put them up 50-31 at the break, then all but ended any hope of a Regina comeback after coming out of halftime with on a 14-3 run that pushed the lead to 30.
  • The Cougars were able to come up with a 15-4 run late in the game but it was too little, too late as Alberta was able to cruise to its 10th Canada West victory of the season.

NOTES
  • Brandon Meiklejohn hit six three-pointers and led all players with 22 points for Alberta (10-5). Adam Paige and Ishimwe both scored 15 for the Golden Bears while Ethan Egert finished with 13.
  • Lodie Kenyi led the Cougars in scoring for the second consecutive game, hitting all three of his three-point attempts and finishing with 15 points. Nick Barnard added 14 points while Matt Barnard scored 12 and led all players with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
  • The Cougars fall to 12-3 with the loss, but still hold the best winning percentage in all of Canada West.
