Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars fall 4-0 to No. 4 Alberta

Evanoff stops 34 of 38 shots for Cougars

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 4-ranked Alberta on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena in Edmonton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alberta got the first goal of the game eight minutes into the contest. Konrad Belcourt sent a pass from the right point to Ty Nash, who redirected it past Regina goalie Adam Evanoff for the game's only goal of the opening period.
  • The Cougars stayed within a goal of the Golden Bears until a little past the midway point of the second. Brett Hyland found Aidan de la Gorgendiere in the slot, and the second-year defenceman one-timed it past Evanoff to extend the home side's lead to 2-0.
  • Alberta put it away with a pair of goals in the third. Jakin Smallwood scored three minutes into the final frame, and Nash's second of the game ended any hope of a late Regina comeback.

NOTES
  • Evanoff ended up making 34 saves as Alberta held a 38-25 advantage in shots.
  • The Golden Bears were 1-for-4 on the power play. Regina was scoreless on its two opportunities with the man advantage.
  • Hyland also assisted on Nash's second goal. de la Gorgendiere and Smallwood both had a goal and an assist for Alberta.

NEXT UP
The two teams will finish off the weekend series on Saturday night at Clare Drake Arena. Puck drop is again set for 7:00 PM.
