Women's Basketball
The Cougars Women's Basketball team continued their preseason play with a pair of games in Calgary.
 
On Thursday, the Cougars took on Thompson Rivers and won 53-49. The Cougars led by 9 after the 1^st quarter but were held to only 14 points in the 2^nd and 3^rd combined. They finished strong with 20 points in the 4^th. Cara Misskey and Eden Wells led the Cougars with 13 points a piece. Misskey also added 9 rebounds.
 
On Saturday, the Cougars took on the Trinity Western Spartans. The Cougars fell behind early but scored 26 points in the 2^nd quarter to fight back and ultimately came out on top 69-60. Misskey was phenomenal in the game, finishing with 29 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Rachel Vanderhooft added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
 
The Cougars will head to Toronto this weekend to wrap up their preseason schedule against the University of Toronto and Toronto Metropolitan University.
 
Women's Hockey
The Cougars Women's Hockey Team continued their Canada West schedule with a weekend series at the University of Manitoba.
 
Friday's game was as back and forth as a game could be. Makena Kushniruk opened the scoring with 2:10 seconds remaining in the first which was assisted by Pippy Pritchard.
 
There were then four goals scored in less than 4 minutes to start the 2^nd period. Manitoba scored early, then Shaylee Scraba answered. Manitoba scored again less than a minute later, but then Tessa Stewart answered back with an assist from Callie Hilhorst, leaving the Cougars up 3-2 heading into the 3^rd period.
 
The Bisons tied the game in the 3^rd, and the game ultimately went to a shootout, with the Bisons narrowly coming out on top.
 
The theatrics continued Saturday. Tessa Stewart opened the scoring with a short-handed goal in the 1^st for her second goal of the weekend. Manitoba evened the score in the 2^nd, but Pippy Pritchard scored late in the frame to regain the lead. The Bisons tied the game with 5 seconds left, sending the game to overtime once again. The overtime frame ended without a goal, and game headed to a shootout for the second straight night.
 
Natalie Williamson was perfect in the shootout, stopping all three of the Bisons shot attempts to secure the win.
 
The Cougars will be on bye next weekend before taking on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies at home in Regina on Oct. 24^th and in Saskatoon on Oct. 25^th.
 
Men's and Women's Swimming
The Cougars welcomed the Manitoba Bisons to the Lawson Aquatic Centre on Saturday and Sunday for a dual meet, which saw multiple personal bests for the Cougars.

Sadie Anderson highlighted strong performances for the Cougars, finishing first in the 100-metre breaststroke, second in the 100m fly, and third in the 50m fly and 50m breaststroke.

Matthew Brough (100m freestyle) and Isaac Currie (200m individual medley) were other Cougar swimmers who won their events, and Mekayla Erpeto took second place in four events (50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 100m medley, 200m medley).

The next action for the Cougars will be the Odium Brown University Cup hosted by UBC in November.
 
Men's Basketball
The Cougars Men's Basketball team continued their preseason campaign with a trip to Ontario.
 
The Cougars started the trip with a game against Wilfred Laurier University. The game was close, but the Golden Hawks pulled away in the 4^th to take it 91-74. Lodie Kenyi led the Cougars once again, finishing with 17 points. Ajang Tong (13) and Isaiah Bay (12) also reached double digits.

The Cougars then headed into Toronto to take on the Toronto Metropolitan Bold. The Cougars fell 94-69.
 
Kaz Dornstauder led the Cougars with 13 points and 6 rebounds, while 6 players scored at least 8 points, including Dornstauder, Tutu Akol, Lodie Kenyi, Drew Ackerman, Ben Kamba, and Zachary Hillis.
 
The Cougars will head out west next weekend to take on Trinity Western and Fraser Valley to wrap up their non-conference schedule.

Men's Hockey
The Cougars Men's Hockey Team hosted the Manitoba Bisons in their first home series of the season.
 
The Bisons scored the first two goals of the contest on Friday and took a 2-0 lead into the 3^rd period. Carson Whyte scored with just over 3 minutes remaining to get the Cougars on the board, but the comeback ultimately fell short. Turner McMillen and Blake Heward had assists for the Cougars, and Justen Maric had 22 saves in net.
 
On Saturday, the visiting Bisons came out firing, scoring the first 3 goals of the contest, and led 3-0 heading into the 3^rd. Matt Culling opened the scoring in the final frame, but the Bisons answered back to retain a 4-1 lead. However, the Cougars were not done battling, as Ayden Third scored with less than 7 minutes to go, and then Culling scored his second of the night shortly after. However, the Bisons held on to take it 4-3.
 
Damon Cunningham made the start in net and had 25 saves.
 
The Cougars will be on bye next weekend before taking on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon on Oct. 24^th and at home in Regina on Oct. 25^th.
