QUICKLY
The University of Regina's men's hockey team lost 3-1 to Manitoba on Saturday in a Canada West game at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Manitoba opened the scoring seven minutes in. Dawson Pasternak tried to slide a pass over to Caden Zaplitny off the rush, but instead the puck went right to Grady Lane who had a wide-open net to give the Bisons the lead.
• The Cougars tied it up early in the second on the power play. Blake Heward's shot from the top of the right circle was stopped, but Eric Houk battled for good position in front of the net and was able to backhand home the rebound for his fourth goal of the season.
• The Bisons scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal midway through the second on a bizarre play shortly after Regina was called for a slashing minor. Ayden Third tried to ring the puck around the boards from behind the goal line in the left corner, but it was deflected by Manitoba's Eric Alarie and bounced off Regina goalie Adam Evanoff and in.
• Manitoba got an insurance goal midway through the third, also on the power play, when Pasternak fed it across to Jonny Hooker at the right circle. Hooker's wrist shot beat a sprawling Evanoff for his 16th of the year.

NOTES

• Regina had a significant advantage in shots on Saturday, ending up with a 36-24 edge in that category.
• Manitoba's Braden Holt stopped 35 of Regina's 36 shots to secure his third win in as many starts and his fourth of the season.
• The Bisons were 2-for-5 on the power play while the Cougars were 1-for-5.

The Cougars will finish off their 2024-25 season with two away games next weekend at No. 5-ranked Mount Royal before playing two at home against MacEwan on Feb. 14 and Feb. 15.
