Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars drop tight Friday, Saturday decisions to No. 3-ranked Calgary

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina men's hockey team dropped both games of a weekend series against the visiting Calgary Dinos, falling 3–2 on Friday and 5–2 on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre. Calgary's sweep improves the Dinos to 17-3-0 in Canada West play, while the Cougars move to 2-16-0.

FRIDAY RECAP
  • Calgary opened the scoring early as Mack Stewart found the back of the net at 6:06 of the first period, with Adam Kydd picking up the assist. Stewart struck again later in the frame at 15:47 to give the Dinos a 2–0 lead after 20 minutes.
  • The Cougars got on the board early in the third period when Eric Houk scored on the power play at 2:21, capitalizing on a double-minor penalty to Jake Poole. Calgary responded just under three minutes later as Davis Fry restored the two-goal lead at 5:02.
  • Regina made things interesting late when Jackson Doucet, assisted by Houk and Carson Whyte, scored at 18:14 to pull the Cougars within one. However, time ran out before Regina could find the equalizer, and Calgary held on for the 3–2 win.

SATURDAY RECAP
  • The Dinos once again struck twice in the opening period, with goals from Connor Horning at 6:06 and Tyler Hammett at 13:09 to take a 2–0 lead into the first intermission.
  • Regina responded in the second as Houk scored his second goal of the weekend at 4:05, with Doucet earning the assist, to cut the deficit in half.
  • Calgary regained its two-goal advantage early in the third when Poole scored at 1:21. Houk answered again on the power play at 16:58, once more assisted by Doucet, to bring the Cougars back within one.
  • The Dinos sealed the win with a power-play goal at 19:08 and an empty-net marker at 19:54 to complete the 5–2 victory and the weekend sweep.
