No. 4 Cougars complete weekend sweep over Winnipeg; improve to 14-0 on the season

QUICKLY
  • The No. 4 ranked Cougars completed a weekend sweep in Winnipeg on Saturday, winning 73-44 over the Winnipeg Wesmen.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A 16-0 run in the first quarter, led by eight points from Eden Wells, gave the Cougars a 21-6 lead at the end of the frame.
  • The Cougars hot shooting continued in the second, as they scored 28 points while shooting over 80 percent from the field as a team. They led 49-18 at the half and won 73-44.
  • Ten Cougars played 10 or more minutes in the contest, with Wells leading all scorers with 16 points. Lilly Vande Graaf added 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.
MISSKEY KEEPS CLIMBING
  • The night after becoming the Cougars all-time leader in career assists, Cara Misskey had 12 points, seven rebounds, and seven more assists, leaving her three short of the career 400 mark.
  • Only 24 U SPORTS players have reached 400 career assists
  • Her career average of 4.8 assists per game is sixth in Canada West history and eleventh in U SPORTS history.
STANDINGS UPDATE
  • With the win, the Cougars improved to 14-0 on the season, and remain tied with the No. 1 ranked Saskatchewan Huskies for first place in the Prairie Division.
  • No. 2 Alberta swept Manitoba, and No. 7 Calgary swept MacEwan. They remain tied for second place in the division at 12-2.
NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will host Alberta on Friday, Jan. 23 and Saturday, Jan. 24 in a crucial weekend series.
  • Calgary will head to Saskatoon to take on Saskatchewan.
