The University of Regina's curling teams finished second on the women's side and fourth on the men's side at the Canada West Championships hosted over the weekend in Edmonton.

Skipped by Chloe Johnston, the women's Cougars rolled to a 6-1 record in round robin play with wins over Calgary, UBC Okanagan, Victoria, UBC, Lethbridge, and Brandon. The team's only setback in the round robin was a narrow 8-5 loss to Alberta in the fourth draw.

The Cougars took a 7-4 win over UBC Okanagan in the semifinals to send them into the championship final against host Alberta. The Pandas scored twice with the hammer in the first end and again in the fifth to go up 4-1, and two more with the hammer in the seventh gave Alberta a 6-2 victory.

Johnston, third Tesa Silversides, second Hannah Rugg, and lead Lauren Speidel were all named Canada West second-team all-stars.

The men's team featured just one returning player as Carter Williamson moved from second to skip. Williamson's mettle was tested early when he needed a brilliant shot with the last rock to give the Cougars a 6-4 win over Alberta, giving the Cougars their third of what would turn out to be seven wins in the round-robin portion of the event.

Regina's 7-1 record put the Cougars into the semifinals, but Alberta claimed a measure of revenge as the Golden Bears took a 5-3 victory to advance to the championship final against Calgary.

Rhett Whittmire, Andrew Moulding, and Evan Arnold were the other curlers on the men's side.

Both teams will now prepare for the 2026 U SPORTS/CCAA Curling Championships, which the University of Regina will host from Feb. 17 through Feb. 21 at the Caledonian Curling Club in Regina.
