University of Regina Athletics

The University of Regina Cougars women's hockey team opened their home schedule with a pair of losses to the University of Calgary Dinos, falling 5-4 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday, Oct. 16 - Calgary 5, Regina 4 

• Calgary opened the scoring before Aliyah Teixeira tied the game for Regina at 10:17 in the first period. 
• The Cougars and Dinos traded goals throughout the rest of the contest with Amy Dvernichuk, Tessa Stewart and Jade Pelland finding the back of the net for Regina. 
• Pelland tied them game at 4-4 early in the third period. Sydney Mercier scored for for Calgary at 8:10 and the Dinos held on to that lead until the final whistle.

Saturday, Oct. 17 - Calgary 4, Regina 2 

• After Calgary opened the scoring, Dvernichuk tied the game with a quick rebound off a strong slap shot from Pippy Pritchard with only 18 seconds left in the first period. 
• Quinn Sutherland put Regina ahead early in the second, but Calgary scored twice in the period and added another in the third to complete the sweep.

OFFENSIVE HIGHLIGHTS

• Dvernichuk scored in both games, while Pelland recorded a goal and an assist Friday. 

BETWEEN THE PIPES

• Amy Swayze made 36 saves on 41 shots on Friday. 
• On Saturday, Aldawna Evers stopped 18 of 22.

• The Cougars open their U-Prairie Challenge series, presented by Sask Milk, against the Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7PM CST in Saskatoon before heading home to host the Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 24, 7PM at The Co-operators Centre.
