Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second-half strikes lift Cougars to 2-0 road win over Manitoba

Hryniuk scores first Canada West goal; Fedoruk makes five saves for shutout

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's soccer team got second-half goals from Ariana Hryniuk and Taylor Mitchell in a 2-0 road victory over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday night in Winnipeg. Both players entered the match as substitutes at halftime, while goalkeeper Cassidy Fedoruk made five saves to earn the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Manitoba carried much of the play in the opening half, outshooting Regina 6-1 and generating three corner kicks. The Bisons put together a stretch of pressure late in the half, but Fedoruk made a save off Sarina Mann in the 37th minute and turned aside Mackenzie Munro-Flora in the 45th to send the match into halftime scoreless.
  • The Cougars made three changes at the break, bringing on Hryniuk, Mitchell, and Savana Caligiuri. The substitutions paid off in the 67th minute when Hryniuk stepped into a ball from just over 30 yards out and launched a high, looping shot that sailed over Manitoba goalkeeper Kailey Johnston-Krulicki. The spectacular strike was the second-year forward's first career Canada West goal.
  • Manitoba looked for an equalizer and forced Fedoruk into another save off Taylor Sousa in the 75th minute, but Regina doubled its advantage less than three minutes later. Mitchell rifled a powerful shot from the right side past Johnston-Krulicki in the 77th minute for her first goal of the season and second of her U SPORTS career.
  • The Bisons continued to press in the closing minutes, but Fedoruk turned aside two shots by Bianca Cavalcanti in the 83rd and 86th minutes to preserve the shutout.
  • Manitoba finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but the Cougars made both of their shots on goal count to secure the victory.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars (2-10-1) will wrap up their 2026 Canada West schedule on Saturday night with another road match against Manitoba (3-8-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM (CT).
