QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's basketball team opened the 2026-27 Canada West season on Friday night with a 92-84 setback to Lethbridge at the University of Lethbridge's Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regina got off to a strong start, shooting 10-for-15 from the field in the opening quarter. The Cougars built an eight-point lead late in the period and took a 26-21 advantage into the second.
  • The Cougars continued to hold the lead throughout the second quarter, going ahead by as many as eight points after an Isaac Kiona three-pointer made the score 42-34. Lethbridge closed the half with a 9-4 run, but Regina still held a 46-43 advantage at the break.
  • The Pronghorns took control in the third quarter. After Regina briefly extended its lead to four points, Lethbridge pulled even and then went ahead for good midway through the period. The home side outscored the Cougars 27-14 in the quarter, holding Regina to just four field goals while shooting 8-for-15 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. Lethbridge carried a 70-60 lead into the fourth.
  • Regina made a push early in the final quarter, cutting the deficit to five points after a Sina Ayerman three-pointer made it 72-67. Lethbridge responded with a run of its own, eventually stretching its lead to 15 points with just over two minutes remaining. The Cougars continued to battle and got back within seven in the final minute, but the Pronghorns held on for the 92-84 victory.
