Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's hockey finishes season with split against Trinity Western

Cougars take 4-2 win over Spartans on Senior Night

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team finished its 2025-26 season with a home split against Trinity Western, losing 5-2 on Friday night before replying with a 4-2 victory on Saturday night at The Co-operators Centre.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Danylo Korzhyletskyi's hat trick led Trinity Western to the 5-2 victory despite a 42-24 advantage for Regina in shots on goal.
  • Korzhyletskyi got things started with a goal midway through the first period for TWU, but Eric Houk replied shortly after for the Cougars. Jackson Doucet's shot from the slot was blocked, but Houk pounced on the loose puck and snapped a hard shot glove side to tie it up.
  • The Spartans then scored three unanswered goals, starting with Lleyton Shearon's marker late in the period that put the visitors up 2-1 at the first intermission. Korzhyletskyi then scored twice in a span of just over four minutes to put Trinity Western up 4-1.
  • Carter Belitski made it a two-goal game less than a minute after Korzhyletskyi's third goal. His initial shot after a pass from the end boards by Carson Whyte was saved, but Belitski gathered the rebound and scored his third goal of the Canada West season.
  • TWU's Connor Farren scored the lone goal of the third period as the Spartans hung on for their fourth conference win of the season.

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
  • After a scoreless opening period, Trinity Western got on the board with a Mikhailo Simchuk power play goal early in the second.
  • The Cougars tied it up while shorthanded midway through the second. Matt Culling made a nice play to spin away from pressure along the boards and delivered a pass to Houk, who deked to his backhand and lifted in his second goal of the weekend and his seventh of the campaign.
  • The Cougars took their first lead of the weekend when Leyton Holoien drew a pair of TWU players to him and sent a pass over to Doucet, who walked in alone and snapped a shot high blocker to put Regina up 2-1.
  • Kade Runke extended Regina's lead to 3-1 early in the third on a play that started when Eric Houk stepped up in the neutral zone to break up an attempted outlet pass by TWU. The puck ended up with Logan Barlage, who entered the zone and flipped a backhand pass to Runke. Runke wired a hard, high shot that went bar down for his second Canada West goal of the season.
  • TWU added another Simchuk power play goal with a little under seven minutes to go in regulation, but that was as close as the Spartans would get. Whyte added an empty netter for Regina with a second remaining to give the Cougars a two-goal win.
