Cougars finish with weekend split against Lethbridge

Early header gives Pronghorns 1-0 win in Saturday rematch

  • The University of Regina's women's soccer team finished with a weekend split against Lethbridge after pulling out a 2-1 victory on Friday night in what was the Cougars' home opener at the U of R Field, but falling 1-0 to the Pronghorns on Saturday night.

  • Lethbridge scored what would be the only goal of the game in the 21st minute off of a corner kick by Myah Stemmann. Lainey Fischer connected with a header to the top corner, putting the visiting Pronghorns into the lead.
  • Shot attempts and shots on goal finished nearly dead even in the match. Lethbridge finished with 10 shot attempts and five on target, while six of Regina's 10 attempts were on net.
  • Lethbridge's Heidi Andres made six saves to secure the clean sheet for the Pronghorns.
  • Magnuson made three saves for Regina.
  • Millar, Mikaela De Luca, and Hadiza Kasim again played all 90 minutes for the Cougars. They're the only three U of R outfielders to have played the maximum possible 360 minutes in the team's four Canada West games so far. Magnuson has also played all 360 minutes in net for Regina.

  • One of four teams tied for the fourth and final Prairie Division playoff spot in the early Canada West standings, the Cougars (1-3-0) face a pair of tough tests at home this weekend. Regina hosts Mount Royal on Saturday and No. 4 Calgary on Sunday at the U of R Field, with both matches scheduled for 12:00 PM. Mount Royal and Calgary enter the weekend tied atop the Prairie Division standings with perfect 4-0-0 conference records.
