Garth Knittig joined the staff in 2023 as a graduate assistant primary working with the team's defensive linemen.
Knittig played three seasons with the Rams, immediately becoming a starter on the defensive line in 2019 in his first year with the program and continuing in 2021 and 2022. He suited up in 20 Canada West games with the Rams and finished with career numbers of 31 solo tackles, 33 assisted tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
Prior to his time with the Rams, Knittig was a four-year member of the Saskatoon Hilltops and won CJFL national championships in all four of those seasons. He played his high school football with the Delisle Rebels.
Besides assuming coaching duties this year, Knittig is also working to complete his Bachelor of Kinesiology classes at the U of R.
