Serke came to the Rams with a wealth of experience at the U SPORTS level as a member of the University of Saskatchewan's coaching staff from 1997 to 2017, a stint which included a Vanier Cup title in 1998 and six Canada West championships. He has coached Team Saskatchewan's U18 squad since 2013, served as the head coach of Team North in the 2014 Football Saskatchewan Senior Bowl, and served as offensive line coach for Team Canada's U18 team in 2019.
As a player, Serke graduated from Nutana Collegiate and suited up for the U of S Huskies for the 1986 and 1987 seasons. He then played for the Saskatoon Hilltops in 1988, 1989, and 1990 before rejoining the Huskies for the 1991, 1992, and 1993 campaigns. Serke helped the Huskies win a Canada West title in 1991, was a two-time Canada West all-star, was named a first-team All-Canadian in 1993, and capped off his career with an invite to the 1994 East-West Shrine Bowl in Palo Alto, Calif. Serke attended training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1994 before retiring due to a knee injury.
Serke, who graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1993 and a Bachelor of Education in 1995, has been a teacher at Viscount Central School since 1997 and has coached the Viscount Vikings football team since 2014.
