Blaine Sautner was named the seventh head coach of the University of Regina’s men’s hockey team on June 16, 2005 after a successful nine-season career as an assistant coach, head coach, and general manager in the SJHL.
During his time with the Cougars, Sautner coached three Canada West all-stars (Clint Chalmers, Kyle Ross, and Jason Weitzel), two CIS All-Rookie Team members (Brant Hilton and Dylan Chapman), and a Canada West Outstanding Student-Athlete (Ross).
Before taking over as the U of R’s head coach, Sautner was the head coach and general manager of the Battlefords North Stars, where he accumulated an impressive record of 135-72-32 from 2001 to 2005. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for five seasons with the Flin Flon Bombers. As a player, Sautner had a three-season junior career with the Bombers before playing for five seasons with Brandon University.
