Bruce Thompson coached the Cougars for five seasons in the early 2000s, starting with the 2000-01 campaign and finishing with the 2004-05 season.
The U of R's best season during Thompson's tenure was in 2003-04, when the Cougars finished second in Canada West's Great Plains Division and earned a two-game home sweep over Manitoba in a best-of-three division semifinal series.
Goaltender Rob Muntain earned second-team All-Canadian and Canada West first-team all-star recognition after that 2003-04 season, while defencemen Kurtis Dulle was named a Canada West all-star in 2002, 2004, and 2005.
