Rod Houk 2025-26

Rod Houk

  • Title
    Men's Hockey Goaltender Coach
Rod Houk originally joined the University of Regina's men's hockey team as a goaltender coach prior to the 2020-21 season.

His coaching background also includes spending time with both the Regina Pat Canadians and the U18 AAA Regina Rebels programs as a goalie coach, and has also worked with numerous other minor hockey teams around Regina.

As a player, Houk played as an 18-year-old with the Cougars during the 1986-87 before playing his final two junior-eligible seasons with the Regina Pats in 1987-88 and 1988-89. Houk then returned to the U of R, where his spectacular 1989-90 season caught the eye of the Minnesota North Stars who selected him in the 1990 NHL Supplemental Draft. Houk returned for one final season for the Cougars — becoming the first winner of the Dr. Randy Gregg Award, given to the Canada West player who best demonstrates excellence in hockey, academic, and community service — then played two seasons of professional hockey in the IHL and ECHL before returning to the Regina area.

Houk's playing career with the Cougars was recognized in 2000, when he was enshrined into the University of Regina Sports Hall of Fame.

He and his wife Tracy have a daughter (Aubrie) and a son (Eric). Rod, Tracy, and Aubrie are all proud graduates of the University of Regina, while Eric is a forward on the Cougars.
