Bruce McCannel

Bruce McCannel was originally named the interim head coach of the University of Regina's cross country and track & field programs in May of 2009 and was permanently hired in April, 2010.

Under McCannel's direction, the University of Regina scored its first Canada West championships in both men's cross country (2009) and men's track & field (2010) in his first full year as head coach. With championships in 2011 and 2014 as well, the Cougars have won a total of three conference track & field titles with McCannel at the helm of the program,

Prior to entering the full-time coaching ranks, McCannel served as a jumps coach for the U of R and also worked as an intergovernmental analyst for the Saskatchewan Ministry of Finance. Under McCannel’s guidance, his jumpers secured eight of the 12 available medals at the 2009 Canada West Championships.

McCannel was also a prolific athlete for the U of R, winning nine conference medals and four CIS medals during his CIS career. He received a Certificate in Economics (2004), a Bachelor of Administration (2004), and a master’s degree in public administration (2005) from the University of Regina.
