Rob McCaffrey started working as an assistant coach/goalkeeper coach with the Cougars prior to the 2013 season and assumed the role of interim co-head coach in 2021.
McCaffrey has extensive coaching experience, including at the NCAA Div. I level as an assistant with the University of Wisconsin. He has coached both club and academy soccer in Saskatchewan for FCR, Queen City United, Aurora Soccer Club, Huskie United Soccer Academy, Centennial Soccer Academy, and the Vancouver Whitecaps Saskatchewan Academy. He has also been involved with the Saskatchewan Soccer provincial program. Most recently, he helped coach the Team Saskatchewan male program to a bronze medal at the Western Canada Summer Games in 2019 and has been involved with the Saskatchewan Summer Games program. He has previously attended the Canadian Soccer Association club nationals at the U14 and U16 levels (boys) and multiple girls' club nationals at the U16 level.
McCaffrey is a Ph.D candidate at the University of Regina concentrating on sport psychology. He is also employed as a mental health advisor for the campus community. He has completed his Canadian Soccer Association National B licence as well as holding many diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches Association including the Advanced National Course and the Director of Soccer Certificate. Rob also holds a Level 3 national goalkeeping coach certificate and in currently completing the new Canadian Soccer Association youth goalkeeping course, where he will be one of two individuals to hold this certificate in Saskatchewan. Rob is also a certified learning facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) as well as being a coach evaluator and master coach developer in training. He currently holds a professional coaching designation with the NCCP.
A former U SPORTS student-athlete at the University of Saskatchewan, McCaffrey was a goalkeeper with the Huskies before hanging up the cleats due to injury and to pursue his academic and coaching passions.
