Cougars lose straight-sets decision to Manitoba

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team lost a straight-sets decision to the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Bisons won 25-20 in the first set, then recorded back-to-back 25-16 wins in the second and third sets to clinch the match.

Kate Wasyliw (13 kills, 10 digs) and Sarah Morrissette (11 kills, 13 digs) each had double-doubles for the Bisons, who improve to 2-0 on the season after the win. Second-year setter Samantha Loewen had 35 assists, eight digs, and seven kills on just nine total attacks for a .778 hitting percentage.

Lisa Abrahamowicz had a solid match for the Cougars (0-2), recording seven kills on 16 total attacks for a team-high .312 hitting percentage. Tiffany Herman had 26 assists for Regina, while Tammy Jule had eight kills and seven digs.

The Bisons hit at a blistering .365 clip during the match, while the Cougars hit for a .136 percentage.

The Cougars will return home next weekend for a two-game series against the Trinity Western Spartans. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and 8 p.m. on Saturday.
