For the second consecutive week, the Cougars will host a nationally ranked team at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. In town this weekend are the Trinity Western Spartans, who were ranked No. 3 in this week's edition of the national rankings.
The Cougars (0-2) started off their season with a pair of losses to the Manitoba Bisons, who are ranked No. 6 in this week's poll. The Bisons won 3-1 over Regina on Friday, then recorded a 3-0 win over the Cougars on Saturday.
Lisa Abrahamowicz returned to the court for the first time since the 2006-07 season and had a team-leading .244 hitting percentage over the two matches.
The Spartans (0-0), who lose five players from last year's roster, will be playing their first matches of the Canada West season. They'll be led by fifth-year middle blocker Dayna Jansen Van Doorn, who was named a Canada West second-team all-star last season.
Counting regular season and playoff matches, the Cougars hold a slim 11-10 edge in the all-time series between the two teams.
The teams will play at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Live stats will be available for both matches on the Cougars' Internet site.
