Cougars lose 3-1 to No. 4 UBC

The No. 7-ranked University of Regina's women's volleyball team lost 3-1 to No. 4 UBC on Friday night in a Canada West match in Vancouver.

The Cougars won the second set by a 25-21 margin to tie the match at one set apiece, but UBC won the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-21 to clinch the match.

Liz Cordonier led the UBC attack with 16 kills on 34 attempts and a .294 hitting percentage. She also added 13 digs to register the lone double-double of the match. Katie Tyzuk had 37 assists and nine digs for the Thunderbirds, while Claire Hanna had 12 digs. Marisa Field had six kills and a match-high eight total blocks.

For the Cougars, Tiffany Herman had 33 assists and fell just shy of the double-double with nine digs for the match. Tammy Jule had 14 kills and a .282 hitting percentage, while Beth Clark and Meagan Smith both had a team-high five assisted blocks. Kelly Cowan tied Cordonier for the match high with 13 digs.

The loss drops Regina's record to 4-3 on the season, while UBC improves to 5-2.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night. The match, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Regina time, will be available via live audio broadcast at www.citr.ca.
