UBC defeats Cougars in straight sets

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-15, 25-20, 25-18) on Saturday night to the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.

Rayel Quiring had 11 kills and Liz Cordonier had 10 to lead UBC, while Thunderbirds setter Katie Tyzuk dished out 38 assists during the three-set match. Marisa Field had seven kills and a match-high seven total blocks for UBC.

For the Cougars, Tammy Jule had a team-high 10 kills, while Meagan Smith and Meagan Onstad each had seven. Kelly Cowan led the U of R with seven digs, while Tiffany Herman had 26 assists and six digs and Solveig Nilson had five assisted blocks.

UBC had a .344 hitting percentage and were led by Quiring's .562 clip, while the Cougars had 29 kills and 22 errors and were held to a .074 percentage.

The loss drops Regina's record to 4-4 on the season. The Cougars will hit the road again next weekend for a pair of matches at Brandon (5-3).
