Cougars lose five-set match to Bobcats

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss to the Brandon Bobcats in a Canada West match on Friday night in Brandon.

The Cougars took the opening set by a 25-17 score before the Bobcats replied with a 28-26 win in the second. The U of R took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 27-25 win, but Brandon won 25-17 and 15-6 in the fourth and fifth sets to earn the victory.

Teagan Hunter had 15 kills and 14 digs for Brandon, while Crystal Cornish registered 13 digs and 10 kills and narrowly missed the triple-double with nine total blocks. Erin Visch-Krahn had 10 assisted blocks for Brandon.

Tammy Jule led all players with 16 kills for the Cougars and also had 12 digs to post a double-double. Kelly Cowan had a match-high 21 digs – including the 1000th of her five-season career with the Cougars – and Meagan Onstad and Meagan Smith both equalled Jule with 12 digs.

The No. 7-ranked Cougars (4-5) and the No. 9-ranked Bobcats (6-3) will meet again on Saturday night in Brandon.

NOTES: With 796 kills in her career, Jule will likely hit the 800 mark on Saturday night against Brandon.
