Sarah Stebeleski scored twice and Stacey Corfield had a 16-save shutout to help the No. 3-ranked University of Manitoba's women's hockey team improve to 14-0-0 with a 4-0 win over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
Stebeleski opened the scoring at the 13-minute mark of the first period, then sniped a shorthanded goal three minutes into the second to extend the lead to two. Nellie Minshull scored the Bisons' third goal of the game just before the second intermission and Meghan Ross finished off the scoring with a goal at the 15:53 mark of the third.
Stebeleski also assisted on Minshull's goal to make it a three-point night for the fourth-year forward.
Corfield has been in the net for all 14 of Manitoba's win. She now has a 1.00 goals-against average, a .951 save percentage, and four shutouts on the season.
Lisa Urban stopped 21 of the Bisons' 25 shots during the game.
Manitoba was 0-for-7 on the power play, while Regina was 0-for-8.
The loss drops Regina's record to 3-11-0 on the season. With six points, the Cougars remain five behind fourth-place UBC entering the Christmas break.
Manitoba and Regina will renew acquaintances on Jan. 9 and 10 in Regina.
