Box Score Game Summary

Dustin Bru matched his two-goal performance on Friday night with two more on Saturday, as the fourth-year forward scored one in regulation and added the winner in overtime as the University of Regina's men's hockey team defeated the UBC Thunderbirds by a 3-2 score.

Bru opened the scoring at the 2:37 mark of the first period with helpers from Ryan Sawka and Tanner Shultz. The Cougars extended the lead to two after Dillon Johnstone scored on the power play less than five minutes later.

UBC cut the lead to 2-1 after Tyler Ruel's goal midway through the second, and the Thunderbirds tied the game with just under six minutes left in regulation when Ryan DeVries scored his second of the season.

After the Cougars successfully killed off a Caine Pearpoint penalty that was taken with 20 seconds left in regulation, Bru scored the overtime winner after firing a shot from the left faceoff circle through a sea of legs that eluded UBC goalie Francois Thuot.

Brant Hilton was stellar in net for the Cougars, stopping 33 of 35 UBC shots to earn the win. Thuot made 29 saves for the Thunderbirds.

The Cougars remain in fifth place in the conference and now have 24 points on the season, three up on both Calgary and UBC. That clinches a postseason berth for Regina, considering the Dinos and the Thunderbirds play each other next weekend. As the Cougars hold the tiebreaker over both teams, no possible scenario would see Regina left out of the playoffs, and the Cougars will travel to either Lethbridge or Manitoba for the first round of the postseason.

The Cougars will finish off their season with a home-and-home series against the Saskatchewan Huskies. The teams will play on Friday night in Regina before heading to Saskatoon for the regular season finale next Saturday.
