Jeff Lukomski's back-to-back three-pointers early in overtime spurred the University of Regina's men's basketball team to an 84-76 win over the Brandon Bobcats on Friday night in Game 1 of the Great Plains Division final in Brandon.
Lukomski's two threes sparked the Cougars as they opened up the extra session on an 8-0 run and never looked back, as the Bobcats cut the lead to four points with two minutes left but weren't able to draw any closer. Two free throws each by Lukomski and
Jordan McFarlen iced the victory in the final minute.

Jamal Williams layup gave the Cougars a one-point lead in the final minute of regulation. Rejean Chabot had a chance to put Brandon into the lead after being awarded a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left, but hit just one of the shots to knot the score at 66. Lukomski missed a pull-up jumper at the buzzer to win it, but would make amends in overtime.
The Cougars overcame a disastrous start to the game, which saw them score their first field goal a minute into the second quarter. Regina scored just three points in the first quarter, all on free throws, and trailed by as many as 16 points before battling back to take its first lead of the game early in the third.
Paul Schubach scored a game-high 27 points for the Cougars, while Lukomski ended up with 20. Williams played all 45 minutes and ended up with a team-high 15 rebounds.
Kris Heshka had 16 points and ten rebounds for the Cougars.
Dany Charlery led Brandon with 25 points, while Stevens Marcelin had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double.
Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday night in Brandon.
