Box Score Game Summary
Casey Lee scored twice and added an assist for the Saskatchewan Huskies as they recorded a 4-3 victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in men's hockey action at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
Trent Adamus opened the scoring for Saskatchewan with a power play goal just over two minutes into the game. Regina's
Caine Pearpoint tied up the contest with a power play goal of his own with two minutes remaining in the first, but Lee scored his first goal of the game just 34 seconds later with an assist from Adamus.
Lee added his 11th of the season just 59 seconds into the second period, putting the Huskies up 3-1. The Cougars cut the lead to one after
Ryan Sawka scored his fifth of the year in the latter stages of the second period, and the score stayed 3-2 in favour of the Huskies until well into the final stanza.
Jesse Zetariuk restored Saskatchewan's two-goal lead after the 14-minute mark of the third period with an unassisted power play goal. Sawka scored again to cut the lead to 4-3, but that was as close as the Cougars could come.
Russel Monette made 22 saves to record the win for Saskatchewan, while
Adam Ward made 29 for the Cougars. The Huskies were 2-for-5 on the power play, while Regina was 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
The win improves Saskatchewan's record to 16-9-2, while the Cougars drop to 11-14-2.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
NOTES: The Cougars can nail down fifth place in the conference with at least a point on Saturday night against Saskatchewan, or a Calgary win over UBC.
