The Brandon Bobcats tied the best-of-three Great Plains Division final series at one game apiece on Saturday night after cruising to an 89-70 victory over the Regina Cougars in men's basketball action in Brandon.
The Bobcats led by just one point after the first quarter, but went on a 16-2 run in the second to take a 16-point lead. The Cougars cut the lead to eight after a
Jeff Lukomski three-pointer at the buzzer at the end of the second, but Brandon broke the game wide open in the third quarter. The Bobcats scored 15 of the first 17 points in the second half and led by at least 20 points for most of the third and fourth quarters.
Tarik Tokar was 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and scored a game-high 22 points for Brandon, while Dany Charlery had 20.
Kris Heshka led the Cougars with 19 points.
The two teams will decide the series in Game 3, which is scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. in Brandon. The winner will claim the division championship and will move on to the Canada West Final Four, which will be hosted by UBC.
