Cougars take straight-sets win over Simon Fraser

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team took a three-set victory over Simon Fraser on Saturday afternoon in a Canada West match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars won 25-15 in the first set and took a quick 25-12 victory in the second set. The third set was much closer, featuring 12 tie scores and six lead changes, but Regina took control with five consecutive points following the second media timeout and clinched the match with a 25-20 win.

Beth Clark led the Cougars with ten kills, while Meagan Onstad chipped in with nine and Kaitlyn Hughes and Solveig Nilson both had seven. Tiffany Herman had 26 assists and nine digs and libero Rebecca Rink had a team-high 12 digs.

Colleen Douville had a match-high 12 kills for Simon Fraser, which falls to 1-13 on the season with the loss. Stephanie Senges had 25 assists, while Krystyna Adams led all players with 13 digs.

The win improves Regina's record to 8-5 as the Cougars continue to chase Brandon (8-4) for fourth place in the Canada West standings.

Regina and Simon Fraser will meet again on Sunday afternoon at the CKHS. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
