The No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds improved their conference record to 11-0 on Saturday night after defeating the Regina Cougars in Canada West women's volleyball at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
UBC opened the match with a 25-19 win in the first set, but the Cougars came right back with a 25-14 win in the second. The Thunderbirds won 25-18 in the third set, then clinched the match with a 28-26 win in a marathon fourth set.
Liz Cordonier and Shanice Marcelle both had 14 kills to lead the Thunderbirds. Marcelle added 12 digs for a double-double and also had a team-high .353 hitting percentage. Fourth-year libero Claire Hanna led UBC with 13 digs, while Kyla Richey had 11 kills and 11 digs for the double-double.
Meagan Onstad led the Cougars with 13 kills and added 14 digs to record the team's lone double-double.
Beth Clark had ten kills and four blocks, while
Rebecca Rink had 12 digs.
Ranked No. 4 in the CIS, the Cougars fall to 6-4 on the season with the loss.
UBC will head to Brandon for two road matches next weekend, while the Cougars will head to Langley, B.C. for a pair of matches against Trinity Western.
