Box Score The University of Regina's women's basketball team lifted the lid on its 2010-11 Canada West season with a 106-37 win over the Brandon Bobcats on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars built up an 11-point lead after the first quarter, then outscored Brandon 27-5 in the second quarter and 38-10 in the third to put the game away.
Five Cougars scored in double digits in the win, led by
Gabrielle Gheyssen's 16.
Joanna Zalesiak had 15 points for Regina, while
Vanessa Wesolowski had 13,
Megan Chamberlin had 11, and
Danielle Schmidt had 10.
Playing in her first Canada West game for the Cougars, first-year post
Jennilea Coppola led all players with 16 rebounds in just 17 minutes on the floor.
Madison Bradbury hit two of her three three-pointers and led Brandon with 12 points, while Amanda Fortin, Chantel Gaslard, Alana Johnston, and Kelsey Solarchuk each had five rebounds for the Bobcats. Brandon falls to 0-3 with the loss.
The Cougars (1-0) will host Brandon again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
