Spartans cruise to 40-point win over Cougars

Trinity Western snapped the University of Regina's four-game winning streak with a decisive 100-60 win on Friday night in a Canada West men's basketball game in Langley, B.C.

The Spartans led by seven points after the first quarter, then outscored the Cougars by a 24-10 margin in the second to seize control of the contest before halftime.

Calvin Westbrook was 8-for-11 from the field and scored a game-high 21 points for Trinity Western in the win, while Jacob Doerksen (14), Tyrell Mara (12), Tonner Jackson (12), and Lance Verhoeff (10) all scored in double digits for the Spartans. Mara added 14 rebounds for a double-double.

Lynn Gee was 3-for-5 from three-point land and led the Cougars with a career-high 12 points, while Paul Gareau chipped in with 11.

Rebounding was the difference during the contest, as Trinity Western collected 42 boards to Regina's 18.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Langley.
