The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in four sets by the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday night in a Canada West match at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Ranked No. 4 in the CIS, Trinity Western recorded decisive 25-16 and 25-17 victories in the first and second sets. The Cougars came back with a 25-23 win in the third set, but the Spartans clinched the match with a 25-12 victory in the fourth.
The victory improves Trinity Western's Canada West record to a perfect 5-0, while the Cougars fall to 1-2.
Kara Jansen Van Doorn led all players with 16 kills for the Spartans. Chelsea Hudson had 40 assists for Trinity Western, while Andrea Ball tied for the match high with 15 digs. Both Hudson and Alicia Perrin had six total blocks.
Kaitlyn Hughes led Regina with 12 kills and added nine digs, while
Tiffany Herman dished out 37 assists and
Rebecca Rink matched Ball with 15 digs.
The Spartans hit .305 for the match, including .464 in the second set and .476 in the fourth set. The Cougars hit at a .042 clip.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at 8 p.m. following the conclusion of the men's match.
