Victoria takes 30-point win over Cougars

The University of Regina's men's basketball team lost 85-55 to the Victoria Vikes on Saturday night in a Canada West game in Victoria.

The two teams were tied after the first quarter, but Victoria took control of the game with 11 consecutive points midway through the second and never looked back. The Vikes led by 12 at the half, extended the advantage to 18 after three, and coasted to a 30-point victory over the Cougars.

Ryan MacKinnon led Victoria with 22 points and six rebounds, while Mike Berg scored 18 for the Vikes. Pierce Anderson scored 12 and matched MacKinnon with six boards.

Sterling Nostedt was 5-for-9 from downtown and led the Cougars with 17 points. Paul Gareau scored 12 for Regina, while Kris Heshka and Matt Campbell both pulled down five rebounds.

Victoria improves to 6-4 with the win, while the Cougars drop their fourth straight and fall to 4-4 on the season.

The Cougars return home next weekend for a pair of games against Calgary (4-4) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
