The University of Regina's women's volleyball team won in five sets over the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night in a Canada West match at the Duckworth Centre in Winnipeg.
The Cougars took the opening two sets by scores of 25-20 and 25-15, but Winnipeg came back with 25-18 and 25-22 victories in the third and fourth sets to force a fifth and deciding set.
Winnipeg jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the fifth, but the Cougars responded with an 8-2 run to take control of the set and held off a late Wesmen rally to clinch the match with a 16-14 win.
Beth Clark led the Cougars with 18 kills, while
Meagan Onstad had 15 and
Kaitlyn Hughes had 10.
Rebecca Rink tied for the match high with 20 digs, and Onstad had 19 digs to record the double-double.
Tiffany Herman also had a double-double, tallying 49 assists and 13 digs.
Lauren Sears led Winnipeg with 19 kills.
The win improves Regina's record to 11-6, while Winnipeg falls to 6-11. The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Winnipeg.
