The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was defeated in three sets by the Laval Rouge et Or on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2010 CIS Championship in Edmonton.
Laval took the first two sets by 25-21 scores, then clinched the match and a berth in the semifinals against No. 1-ranked UBC with a 25-19 win on Saturday.
The Cougars were able to tie the score at various times during the match, but weren't able to take the lead in any of the three sets. Laval hit .196 for the match and .387 during the first set alone, while the Cougars had 30 kills and 21 errors and hit for an .088 percentage.
Laval was led by Melanie Savoie, who led all players in both kills (12) and digs (14). Sarah Letourneau-Levesque had 30 assists for the Rouge et Or, while Karine Ducharme had eight kills and a match-high .538 hitting percentage.
Kaitlyn Hughes had nine kills and a pair of service aces for the Cougars, while
Tiffany Herman had a double-double with 25 assists and 10 digs.
Meagan Onstad tied Herman with 10 digs.
The Cougars will square off with No. 8-seeded Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon in the consolation semifinals. The Huskies were beaten in straight sets by UBC on Friday afternoon. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
