Cougars defeated by UBC in shootout

The University of Regina's men's hockey team was defeated 2-1 in a shootout by the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday night in Vancouver.

Brennan Sonne was the hero for UBC, scoring the Thunderbirds' lone goal of regulation in the first period, then beating Cougar goalie Adam Ward to record the only successful attempt in the three-round shootout.

Tyler Penny scored for the Cougars with eight minutes left in regulation, notching a power play marker with help from Russ Nielsen.

Jordan White made 30 saves and stopped all three shootout attempts in the win for UBC, while Ward made 21 stops for the Cougars.

The Cougars (6-13-1) will play host to the Manitoba Bisons next Friday and Saturday at The Co-Operators Centre.
