Cougars outlast Fraser Valley; now 14-3 on the year

The University of Regina's women's basketball team outlasted the Fraser Valley Cascades for an 83-79 road win on Friday night in Abbotsford, B.C.

The Cougars led by 15 with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but Fraser Valley scored 12 consecutive points before Lindsay Ledingham hit a free throw to make it a two-possession game with 12 seconds left.

Fraser Valley led by as many as 15 points in the third before the Cougars went on a massive 30-8 run to take the lead heading into the fourth.

Ledingham led the Cougars in both points (18) and rebounds (9). Joanna Zalesiak had 16 points, while Anne Mercer and Carly Graham each scored 14. Danielle Schmidt was 7-for-8 from the free throw line and ended up with 11.

Sarah Wierks led Fraser Valley (8-9) with 21 points.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Abbotsford.
