The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was within range of Trinity Western all match long, but the Cougars were taken out in straight sets by the Spartans on Saturday night in Langley, B.C.
Trinity Western edged the Cougars 25-23 in both the first and second sets, then came up with a 25-22 win in the third set to clinch the match and a weekend sweep over Regina. The third set was the most hotly contested of them all, with the teams trading leads three times and playing to 12 tie scores before a late 5-1 run by Trinity Western finally gave the Spartans the win.
Amy Leschied led the Spartans offensively with 11 kills and added eight digs, while Kelci French led all players with 16 digs for Trinity Western.
Solveig Nilson had a match-high six blocks for Regina and had five kills on nine attacks, while
Roxanne Olynyk had 10 kills and
Meagan Onstad had a team-high 11 digs.
The Cougars (2-6) return home next weekend to host Brandon (2-6) at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on Friday and Saturday.
