Women's volleyball hosts Brandon at CKHS

11/25/2011 2:06:00 PM

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team will look to put an end to a four-match slide this weekend against Brandon, as the two teams will meet at the CKHS on Friday night at 6:15 p.m. and on Saturday night at 8 p.m.

Regina is currently tied with Brandon for ninth in the Canada West standings as the two teams hold identical 2-6 records. The results of this weekend will be critical for the Cougars, who are looking to qualify for the Canada West postseason for the 10th consecutive season.

Fifth-year middle blocker Solveig Nilson ranks third in the conference with a .368 hitting percentage, the highest by a U of R player since former Cougar Krista Rennick hit a blazing .459 in 1999-00. Meagan Onstad ranks fourth in Canada West with an average of 3.27 kills per set, while setter Tiffany Herman's 9.77 assists per set also rank fourth in the conference.

Brandon's Meaghan Robertson has had a fine start to her second CIS season, as she ranks second in Canada West with 3.37 kills per set. Third-year setter Kellie Baker is third in the conference in assists per set for the Bobcats, who are coming off of a pair of road losses to Calgary last weekend.

The Cougars will travel east next weekend to play their final matches before the December break, as they'll square off against the University of Winnipeg on Friday and Saturday.

Webcasts for both matches this weekend will be available live at www.canadawest.tv.

NOTES: The two teams have played in 14 Canada West matches since Brandon started up its volleyball program in 2005 ... the Cougars hold an 8-6 advantage in those 14 conference matches.
